Sometimes you don’t have to go abroad to get that holiday feeling. I like being a tourist in my own country and make daytrips to new cities. This time it was Leiden.
If you’re on a holiday in Holland, Leiden is a perfect city to visit for a day. It is easy to get to by train and it has everything on walking distance. So what were my highlights of a day in Leiden?
Shopping in Leiden
When in a city a women needs to shop! Leiden has all the larger stores like H&M, V&D and Vero Moda but also local shoe stores that are worth checking out. One of the shops that you shouldn’t miss is the bookstore Babooka. Here you find beautiful books about art, photography, design, food and more. And when you walk in the store you can also have a peek inside the office of creative agency Azeta.
Lunch at Roos
Since I like to be prepared I already looked at home for some nice places to eat in Leiden. While wandering around looking for a place to get lunch we stumbled across Roos. This cute little place serves the best home-made lunch! I had this delicious sandwich with chicken, bacon, avocado, nuts and lettuce. But everything on the menu looked great. Definitely coming back here on the next trip to Leiden!
You’re not a real tourist until you made a boattrip on the canals of Leiden. Since the weather was nice and our feet sore from walking we decided to get a ticket for the canal trip. In one hour we got a tour around the city centre by boat. It’s nice to learn a little bit about the history while enjoying the sun on the canals.
Dinner at City Hall
So of course at the end of the day dinner had to take place in Leiden as well. We choose City Hall in the middle of the city centre. Nice Italian food and wine for a reasonable price. A good way to end this day!
